Description

VERSION C : the best I can do with Iphoto and Nebulosity 3.2 in order to reveal details in the Flame nebula and M78. The result looks quite ugly, with purple brownish background, all coming from pushing saturation, definition and the rest... Oh well, I can only improve. In the very near futur!

For the record, the faintest star in this field seems to be around mag.14.40

Strange editing one can come up with in Startools. This is a low res', work in progress of a large field taken with the D750, staging 22x1,3sec @ 25600 iso. It's clearly overcooked but here it is : all realities are welcomed on Astrobin, and I certainly learned much even from poor results. They tend to show the way to better work...

One strange artifact comes from having done poorly on my mask : some stars are over-hanhenced while the fainter ones stain low in the background.

There was also a strange issue with the "fractal flux" : I'm not sure if it picked-up actual differences in the background (Orion is a vast system of nebulae that this tool may possibly have revealed) or just an artifact ?

B version is a crop around M78. My initial project this evening was to find out how much more details I could catch with short exposures at very high iso levels. Before trying to catch this nebula on a proper goto system ! Arriving next week :-)
